Bullying Prevention Awareness and Rap Music's Influence on Youth Seminar
Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (EST)
This seminar is specifically designed to inform and equip adults with the tools needed to effectively communicate with today's youth. The emotional, psychological and physical effects of bullying will be discussed as it relates to the victim and the perpetrator, as well the detrimental effects one incident of bullying can have on an entire community.
This seminar also educates adults on the importance of being familiar with pop culture’s influence on today’s youth. It will increase participant's knowledge of the role entertainers, celebrities and professional athletes play in the impressionable lives of youth from all walks of life. In–depth dialogue will address how youth behavior can be profoundly impacted by peer pressure, stereotypes, bias and misconceptions. The seminar will also focus on dispelling certain biased perceptions that divide communities like those asserted in the Trayvon Martin tragedy.
Participants will see how the most successful rap artists in the entertainment industry refused to allow their past misfortunes in life to dictate their future. Shawn teaches his goal setting technique P.I.E.S as a way to show participants how to help youth establish a plan for success. Participants will learn how to inspire youth by using accomplishments of successful rappers as models of triumph.
